Ghazal 109 (غزل ۱۰۹) · Divan of Hafez
دیر است که دلدار پیامی نفرستاد
dīr ast ke deldār payāmī nafrestād
nanvesht salāmī o kalāmī nafrestād
ṣad nāme ferestādam o ān shāh-e savārān
peykī nadavānīd o salāmī nafrestād
sūy-e man-e vaḥshīṣefat-e ʿaqlramīde
āhū raveshī kabk kharāmī nafrestād
dānest ke khvāhad shodanam morgh-e del az dast
vaz ān khaṭ-e chūn selsele dāmī nafrestād
faryād ke ān sāqī-ye shekkar lab-e sarmast
dānest ke makhmūram o jāmī nafrestād
chandān ke zadam lāf-e karāmāt o maqāmāt
hīcham khabar az hīch maqāmī nafrestād
Ḥāfeẓ be adab bāsh ke vākhvāst nabāshad
gar shāh payāmī be gholāmī nafrestād
The Persian verses are from the Divan of Hafez of Shiraz, drawn from the public-domain ganjoor archive, and presented unchanged. The transliteration is model-assisted and awaiting review by a Persian-literate reader — if you spot a slip, we’d love to hear.
Hold a question in your heart, and let a verse of Hafez answer it.
